MKULTRA - CIA

MKUltra was a secret CIA program that began in the early 1950s and lasted through the 1970s, aimed at researching mind control and behavior modification techniques. It involved a variety of experiments, some of which were unethical and illegal. The program used drugs (including LSD), hypnosis, sensory deprivation, and other methods to try to control and manipulate individuals' mental states.

The goal of MKUltra was to develop techniques that could potentially be used for espionage, interrogation, and psychological warfare during the Cold War. However, many of the experiments were conducted without the consent of the participants, leading to numerous ethical violations.

MKUltra was officially halted in 1973, and much of its documentation was destroyed in 1973 by then-CIA Director Richard Helms. However, some documents and information about the program were later uncovered through declassified records and investigations, most notably in the 1970s through the Church Committee hearings and a subsequent report by the Rockefeller Commission.

MKUltra remains a controversial and disturbing chapter in U.S. intelligence history.
