“Do not act this way toward the Lord your God,

Even later in the prophets:

“They built high places of Topheth... to burn their sons and daughters in the fire.
Something I did not command, nor did it enter My mind.”
— Jeremiah 7:31

This was not just paganism. This was ritual slaughter.
Blood sacrifice.
