Aryans, Castes & Colonizers

How India Built Its Own Racial Hierarchy — and Britain Weaponized It

By Cupo Cupovski

It’s one of the strangest ironies in world history.

The so-called “Aryan race” — later used by Nazis and white supremacists in Europe — actually has its roots not in the Alps, but in ancient India.

And what’s worse? The racial caste system that the British Empire weaponized to divide and conquer India… was originally built by Indians themselves.

Let’s break it down.

The Aryans of Ancient India: Not a Race, but a Ruling Class

The word Arya comes from Sanskrit, appearing in the ancient Vedic texts (c. 1500–1200 BC). It meant “noble” — not white, not Nordic, not Germanic. Just “noble.”

The early Aryans were Indo-European-speaking pastoralists who migrated into the Indian subcontinent. They brought with them their rituals, language (Vedic Sanskrit), and a belief in their own superiority.

They established a social order — varna — which literally means color. It divided society into:

  • Brahmins (priests)
  • Kshatriyas (warriors)
  • Vaishyas (merchants)
  • Shudras (servants)

This wasn’t just about jobs. Over time, this evolved into a rigid caste system, where birth decided your status — and darker skin often meant lower caste.

Was this racial? Not exactly in the modern sense — but ethno-cultural elitism was baked into the Vedic worldview. The Aryans saw others (the Dasa, Dasyu) as uncivilized and impure.

The British Hijack the Aryan Myth

Fast forward to the 19th century.

Enter the British Empire, armed with guns, census reports, and an obsession with race science.

Colonial scholars like Max Müller and others took the word “Aryan” from Indian texts — and twisted it into a European racial category.

They claimed that fair-skinned Indo-European Aryans had invaded India long ago, conquered the dark-skinned natives, and set up civilization — and now the British (as fellow Aryans) were merely continuing this legacy.

This was racial propaganda disguised as history.

And it worked.

It allowed the British to justify their presence in India as “natural,” “civilized,” and even “benevolent.”

Divide, Codify, Control

The British didn’t just use the Aryan myth to justify conquest — they turned India’s caste system into a colonial control mechanism.

  • They conducted census surveys that froze caste identities into rigid categories.
  • Promoted Brahmins and upper castes into administration and education.
  • Played Muslims vs. Hindus, upper castes vs. Dalits, North vs. South — classic “divide and rule.”

Caste had always existed — but the British turned a cultural system into a bureaucratic machine of social apartheid.

Exporting the Lie to Europe

Here’s the kicker: the same “Aryan race” theory that helped the British justify ruling India… made its way back to Europe.

It landed in the hands of German racial theorists, and eventually into the ideology of Nazi Germany, who believed they were descendants of the “pure Aryans” — a myth that started in India’s Vedic texts.

Imagine that: a political caste system created in ancient India → mutated by British imperialists → became the racial theory of the Third Reich.

That’s not history. That’s weaponized mythology.

Final Thought

India was ruled by a system of racial elitism long before the British came — but it was the British who turned that system into scientific racism, coded it into colonial law, and exported it to the world.

The Aryan caste system wasn't just India’s internal problem. It became a global lie that shaped centuries of colonization, division, and racial supremacy.

And we’re still dealing with its fallout.

Time to expose it.
