Ivo Goldstein and the Political Manipulation of Croatian History

In today’s world, history is often used as a weapon in political battles. Few exemplify this better than Ivo Goldstein, a Croatian historian whose works are less about objective scholarship and more about ideological manipulation that deeply impacts how the Croatian people and their history are perceived.

Goldstein: A Mouthpiece for Communist and Serbian Interests

Ivo Goldstein is known for his interpretation of Croatian history that aligns almost perfectly with the communist-globalist narrative. His writings systematically demonize Croatian nationalism, the Ustaše movement, and the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), portraying them as purely fascist, criminal, and without any regard for the complex historical context in which they emerged.

This approach is not an innocent academic interpretation—it is a political tool designed to discredit Croatia and its people. Goldstein’s work supports the interests of communist ideologies and Serbian nationalist agendas by casting Croats as perpetual villains responsible for the region’s conflicts.

Ignoring Communist Crimes and Serbian Aggression

While aggressively condemning Croatian actions during WWII, Goldstein and his school deliberately ignore or downplay the horrific crimes committed by the communist regime under Josip Broz Tito and the policies of Serbian hegemony. The repression, mass killings, and forced deportations of Croats after the war are either minimized or justified as part of the “anti-fascist struggle.”

This double standard fosters ongoing injustice by silencing the suffering of millions of Croats and keeping them unfairly burdened with guilt.

History as a Political Weapon

Goldstein’s books and articles are not just historical works—they are propaganda tools. They reshape collective memory, manipulate national identity, and control the social narrative to fit foreign interests and ideological frameworks.

Such manipulation blocks genuine reconciliation and truth, perpetuating division instead of fostering healing.

Why Exposing This Manipulation Matters

Every nation deserves an honest and objective approach to its history, free from ideological agendas that serve manipulation and political control. Croatia, with its rich and complex past, deserves the truth—not the distorted versions pushed by “experts” like Goldstein.

By exposing these manipulations, we empower current and future generations to shape their identity and future without the burden of unjust accusations and imposed guilt.
