Betrayed Twice: How France, Britain and Russia Sacrificed Croatia for Serbia in Two World Wars by Cupo Cupovski

Throughout the 20th century, global empires played their chess game across the Balkans — and Croatia was the pawn they were more than willing to sacrifice.

Twice — once in the name of monarchy, and once in the name of communism — the so-called “Allies” (France, Britain, and Russia) made secret deals with Serbia that crushed Croatia’s national aspirations and forced us into the nightmare of Yugoslavia.

Let’s break it down.

• World War I – The First Betrayal

During WW1, Croatia was part of Austria-Hungary — a complex empire falling apart under the pressure of war. Meanwhile, Serbia was portrayed as a brave underdog, backed heavily by Britain, France, and Russia.

In 1917, the Corfu Declaration was signed by Serbian officials and Yugoslav exiles — creating the blueprint for a South Slavic kingdom under Serbian rule.

• The deal was backed and promoted by France and Britain.
• Croatia was never consulted.
• The goal? To carve up Austria-Hungary and reward Serbia for its role in the war.

When the war ended, the so-called "Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes" was born — ruled from Belgrade under a Serbian king. It was not a union of equals. It was a hostile takeover, blessed by the West.

Croatia went from the Austro-Hungarian Empire into a worse prison — Yugoslavia, controlled by Serbian elites and backed by Allied diplomacy.

• World War II – Betrayed Again

In WWII, Croatia declared independence under the NDH. But while Britain, France (occupied), and the USA claimed to fight for "freedom of nations," they never recognized Croatian independence.

Instead, they shifted full support to Josip Broz Tito — a communist dictator and Soviet agent.

At the Tehran and Yalta conferences, Churchill and Stalin agreed on a post-war Yugoslavia ruled by Tito. The Western Allies abandoned the Chetniks, and turned a blind eye to Partisan war crimes — as long as the region stayed "anti-fascist."

The result?

• Croatia was again swallowed into Yugoslavia, this time a communist federation under Serbian control.
• British and Soviet intelligence helped crush Croatian resistance.
• Western media demonized Croatian nationalism, while glorifying Tito’s "liberation."

Once again, Croatia's right to independence was sacrificed on the altar of global power games.

• The Real Agenda

Let’s be honest — the West never wanted a strong, independent Catholic Croatia.
They preferred a centralized, Serb-led Yugoslavia that could be controlled and manipulated.

Why?

• To prevent a pro-German Catholic bloc in the Balkans
• To reward Orthodox Serbia, their long-time proxy
• To use Yugoslavia as a buffer against Russian or German influence

Croatia was treated like a territory to be managed, not a nation to be respected.

• Conclusion: Two Wars, One Pattern

Whether under the monarchy or under communism, the Allies always sided with Serbia — and always crushed Croatian hopes for sovereignty.

They called it "peace" and "unity."

But it was occupation.

And we are still living with the consequences of those betrayals — in our history books, our borders, and our national identity.

It’s time to wake up.

Croatia doesn't owe anything to France, Britain, or Russia.
They never liberated us.
They sabotaged us — twice.

Let us reclaim our true history.
Let us speak the truth — no matter how uncomfortable.
